The front wing needed replacing. This was easy to source.
The car went to John
Bertalan Motors for fitting and spray. Here it is, nearly complete.
And the passenger door fits better now!
Quite a lot of little things have been completed. For
instance the radiator has a new fan to help with cooling on those
hot summer days. It is difficult to to think of those in cold winter
garages.
The engine, gearbox and everything connected came out. The choice
was engine out hen gearbox, or all at once. We went for all at once
to allow an easier separation once out.
After it was out the clutch looked good and everything
seems to be in order.
For Christmas Ashmore Racing received a new gearbox.
It was clear that this hadn't been perfect when we bought the car.
Synchros had gone and second and reverse was difficult. With use this
only got worse.
The work was carrier out by RS
Cars Ltd (Richard Shrive's Classic Car restoration). They quickly
sorted out the engine after a push rod broke earlier in the year at
a test at Silverstone. They seemed the ideal people to refurbish the
gearbox
Richard work hard sourcing the parts and turned it round
very quickly. Probably the first garage that has delivered within
time. Not only that it was early.
Here is a worn gear from the old box.
I'm looking forward to trying the 'box when it is back in the car.
Now the tricky bit, putting it back together...
The radiator is in. Looks good, hopefully it will
match the looks.
And the exhaust wrap. We are concerned about the inlet
and exhaust being on the same side (compared to the Jags) and feel
this might increase the inlet gas temperature. Hopefully this will
mean the exhaust emits its heat further down the line.
